Good Words

Ok, I think I got it!
Here are some Good Words this week.

I like quotes, so here are some quotes to wrap your mind around:

"You can easily judge the character of others by how they treat those who do nothing for them or to them." -Malcolm Forbes

"Character is not developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffereing can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved." -Helen Keller

"The ultimale measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." -Martin Luther King, Jr.

"Have you learned lessons from only those who admired you, and were tender to you, and stood beside you? Have you not learned great lessons from those who rejected you, and braced themselves against you, or disputed the passage with you?" -Walt Whitman

I got this from an e-mail and I liked it, so I figured I would share it with all of you. Just something to think about...

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I will marry you.' One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend. He asked her,'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?' The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him. Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.'

Have a great week!

New Ideas

Earlier today I posted a quote on our website that says:

"Many great ideas have been lost because the people who had them could not stand being laughed at."

~Unknown

I chose this quote because just this last week we had a group out at the BAC and they had a great amount of hostility for any new ideas that might come up within the group. The task I gave them was to keep a beach ball size rubber ball up in the air until each member of the group hit it once. Every time the ball would hit the ground they would have to start over. Naturally the game seemed so simple that every time the ball touched the ground accusations were thrown everywhere as to who's fault it was. Then it shifted to some people having new ideas and other "laughing" at them. For the record, the new ideas worked.

If every new idea were the obvious answer then there would be no growth within the group because everyone would know everything worth knowing. It's the new ideas that have to be tested that teach you new lessons in life and serve as the birthplace of knowledge. I know at times I think I have all the answers but maybe by me realizing that I'm also saying that I am prone to laugh at others' ideas if they don't agree with my own. Bummer!
